Sake Barrels Meiji Shrine
My 100 Best Moments in Japan - 38/100wall of barrels
I saw this impressive display of sake barrels (kazaridaru) at the entrance of the Meiji Shrine in Shibuya, Tokyo. I found out that this is a story of give and take. Rice-wine brewer from all over the country making these donations and the priest is asking the god for their prosperity. On the other hand the sake is needed for the shrines rituals and festivals. It is a great symbiotic relationship which leads to this sake barrel monument:)
