Facts & Figures

Ukimido is a hexagonal wooden gazebo "floating" over the Sagiike Pond in the Nara Park near Kasuga Taisha Shrine. It is a very popular photo spot for tourists, especially when the pavilion is beautifully reflected on the surface of the pond. The roof of the Ukimido is thatched with Japanese cypress bark. The best time to visit this place is during the summer nights, when the floating pavilion is illuminated. You can also rent a boat there from late March through late November.
